Anna Maria Gove papers, 1864-1952.

Correspondence and photographs chiefly document the professional medical career and personal life of Dr. Anna Maria Gove from the late 1890s to the early 1950s. Letters from Gove's parents in the late 1890s to 1912 chiefly relate to family news and Gove's position as resident physician at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. Other letters from the late 1890s pertain to Gove's campus patients. Correspondence from acquaintances at home and abroad in the 1920s and 1930s concern Woman's College campus affairs, current events, political conditions abroad, and the onset of World War II. Postcards and photographs reflect Gove's life in Greensboro; her travels across the United States and overseas in the 1890s and 1920s; and her Red Cross work in France during World War I. Also included are portraits of friends, students, and Dr. Gove and her family. Collection also contains financial materials, lecture notes, French books and manuals, greeting cards, postcards, and travel brochures.

Anna Maria Gove (1867-1948) of Whitefield, New Hampshire, was the resident physician, professor of hygiene, and director of the Department of Health at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina from 1893 to her retirement in 1937.
